Modular images belong to modern art and are divided into several types: diptych - two parts, triptych - three parts and polyptych - more than three parts.

Choosing a modular picture for the interior

The basic rule for any picture that will be used in the interior as a decorative element is the correspondence of the color of the canvas to the design of the room. Particular attention should be paid to the subject of paintings. And here you can take advantage of the recommendations of professional designers:

  • For the hallway and corridor, canvases with clear and understandable images that are easy to understand and do not require long study will be an excellent option.

  • For the bedroom, it is best to choose calm colors. Delicate flowers, lyrical portraits or landscapes in pastel colors will be appropriate here. It is these paintings that will contribute to complete relaxation after a busy day.
  • In the children's room of the baby you can use very simple, understandable to the child form. These can be various animal figures painted in different shades of the same color that prevails in the room. For older children, a selection of personal photos in the same style, made on canvas, as well as images of idols or your favorite sport, is ideal.
  • The most striking and unusual modular paintings are fashionable to use in the interior of the living room. Moreover, the more large parts the picture has, the more interesting it will look. Here it is not necessary to adhere to any rules regarding the correctness of geometric shapes and color attachment. It is enough that only some elements in the image correspond to the general color scheme of the room or to individual decor elements.

  • Modular paintings with the image of fruits, flowers or landscapes will harmoniously fit into any kitchen interior with a wall free of furniture.

Features of modular paintings

A distinctive feature of modular paintings is not only the division of the whole image into fragments, but also the absence of a frame, due to which all elements look like a single whole. Depending on how far you place the image modules, you can create an excellent effect of image depth and mobility. It is these characteristics that make this element of decor so interesting and impressive.

There are no special rules for creating such decorative paintings, apart from the distinctive characteristics. Such canvases can be painted with acrylic or oil paints or printed on canvas. You can divide the image into fragments in any direction. This can be a picture divided into four squares, into vertical or horizontal stripes, or generally diagonally. Moreover, it is not necessary that all the details form a regular square or rectangle. It can be a cluster of geometric figures with edges protruding one after another, which are united only by a common pattern, connecting at the same time as puzzles. There are plenty of options, the main thing is that the whole creation harmoniously fits into the style of the room. For modular compositions there are no restrictions regarding sizes either; it all depends on the quadrature of the wall on which the modular canvas will be placed. However, do not make the parts too small, the minimum size for one of the sides of the module should be at least 300 mm.

The picture, divided into segments, can be located as on a separate section of the wall, for example, above a sofa or bed, or completely from floor to ceiling to occupy the entire wall, creating an original atmosphere in the room.

In interior design, an adviser can only be personal tastes that will suggest the theme of a modular picture that is acceptable for you and its color. It is worth noting that such a picture can be a connecting link in a contrasting interior, or it can also act as a bright accent that sets the mood for the whole room.

For those who know how to hold a brush in their hands, it’s not at all a problem to create something fashionable in the Art Nouveau style for the unique interior of their home. But for those who don’t know how to draw, but want to create a modular picture with their own hands, the ideal solution would be drawings printed on the printer, which are glued to pieces of polystyrene foam. The whole difficulty of creating such a work of art will consist only in the correct printing of individual elements of the picture for compiling the modules. However, if you really want to have decor elements created in your own house, this method will be a good option. The image can be divided into modules using a simple graphic editor, after printing them, sticking to the base and masking the sides of the foam with paint to match the color of the wall finish on which the picture will be placed.
