Bathroom Design 2019

The bathroom is one of the most difficult rooms in any home, with its own microclimate, functional features and capabilities. Despite the fact that we spend not so much time in the bathroom as in the bedroom or kitchen, for example, modern people cannot do without this multifunctional room. The bathroom is not only a space for conducting water and sanitary procedures, it is a kind of spa at home, a place where a modern person can relax and gain strength after a hard day. That is why any owner of an apartment or a private house wants to see his bathroom not only practical, functional, as comfortable as possible, but also beautiful, fashionable. The latest trends of the upcoming season in the field of interior design of bathrooms will be discussed in this publication.

Actual ideas for a modern bathroom design

At the end of the last century, all the bathrooms of Russians could differ only in the options for placing plumbing - the bathroom could be separate or combined. A modern bathroom does not depart from tradition, but at the same time it can have a much greater functional content. In addition to the standard set of plumbing devices - bathtubs, sinks and toilets (if the bathroom is combined), the room for water procedures can be equipped with a bidet, shower or hydrobox with many options, a sauna or a steam room of compact size.

In addition, most bathrooms can combine laundry functions - often the matter is not limited to installing only a washing machine, a whole base is formed around it for sorting and subsequent drying and folding of clean laundry. Some bathrooms have enough space to accommodate not only the entire set of plumbing devices and storage systems, but also equip, for example, a dressing table. The result depends only on the size of the bathroom, the needs of the owners and their financial capabilities.

When drawing up design projects for bathrooms of the coming season, experts recommend using the following set of current trends:

  • the modern bathroom is a spacious, well-lit room with a practical, ergonomic and functional layout;
  • the design of the bathroom space, starting from the choice of the color palette, the location of storage systems and the way to install plumbing and ending with the selection of decorative elements - everything is aimed at preserving the free space and visually increasing the volume of the room;
  • plumbing often acts not only as necessary attributes of a room for water and sanitary-hygienic procedures, but it becomes a highlight of the interior, thanks to the original, but at the same time ergonomic design;
  • storage systems most often have simple and clear forms, the design is minimalist, but at the same time practical and comfortable to use, open shelves and shelves that are able to visually not burden the image of the room are widely used;
  • The current design bathroom has several lighting levels - pendant or built-in lamps should be located not only on the ceiling, but also near mirrors;
  • the presence of decorative elements is minimized; only practical interior items necessary for water and sanitary procedures are used as decorations.

Decorating a modern bathroom

The choice of practical, environmentally friendly and beautiful finishing materials for the bathroom is not an easy task. After all, the surfaces of this particular room are subject to constant exposure to moisture, temperature changes and cleaning with detergents. Repair in the bathroom can rightfully be considered the most durable, because the designation of the designated area is carried out not for years, but for decades (if the choice of materials was correct, and they were operated in accordance with their technological qualities). But the modern market of finishing materials provides us with a lot of opportunities to protect the planes of this multifunctional space with the help of fashionable and practical coatings.

The choice of environmentally friendly materials is always a priority, not only in the upcoming season. But not every homeowner can afford the use of natural stone, such as marble, to finish the surfaces of a bathroom. But the use of safe, practical and at the same time aesthetic ceramic tiles (or porcelain stoneware) is available to many - the range of prices for materials is as wide as the choice of color palette and texture.

The undoubted trend in the design of the bathroom is embossed and curly tiles. Obviously, you won’t surprise anyone with an ordinary rectangular or square tile, photo printing and screen printing are still used, but not so actively. Tiles imitating wood, concrete, brick and stone can be a key element in the interior of a bathroom.

For registration of a floor covering porcelain tile is most often used. This is a ceramic tile, the properties of strength and wear resistance of which are enhanced by special additives. The surface of such tiles is not smooth to prevent slipping and increase safety during operation in a room with high humidity. As for the design of porcelain tiles, it all depends on the general concept of the design of the bathroom. You can purchase products from one collection (wall and floor tiles are sold in the kit) or choose your own, original option.

Floor tiles imitating wood or stone flooring are particularly successful. It is important to consider that for a visual increase in the size of the bathroom, especially the height of the room, the color of the flooring should be two or more tones darker than the color scheme, and the walls, in turn, should be a tone or two darker than the ceiling. The use of a bulk 3D floor will bring originality to the interior of the bathroom. This may be the only unusual piece of room design.

As for the design of the ceiling, complex multi-tiered structures that make the image of the room heavier are a thing of the past. A snow-white, perfectly even ceiling is the best design option for a room of any size and configuration. You can create such a surface using a hinged structure (made of moisture-proof drywall) or a stretch fabric. Stretch cloths are especially relevant for the design of ceilings in apartment buildings. With this coating, you can not be afraid of flooding from the neighbors from above - call the master, and he will quickly and easily release the accumulated water through the hole for the fixtures.

Plumbing in the design of the bathroom in 2018

It is impossible to imagine a perfect, comfortable and practical bathroom design without modern and high-quality sanitary ware. Traditionally, a bath or shower, sink and toilet are installed in the combined bathroom. Spacious rooms can be supplemented with a bidet, a second sink (you can use a large model with two drain holes and the ability to install two mixers).

Of course, the main criterion for choosing plumbing for a bathroom is the quality of manufacturing products. But, if not only technological, but also aesthetic qualities of bathroom interior items are important to you, if you would like to create a modern, fashionable image of the room, then choose models with an original design.

Given the fact that the bathtub is a central element of the plumbing of the entire room (at least because it occupies the most space), you can bet on the original design of this plumbing device. Unusual, ultramodern shape (in the form of a rook, hammock, round, curved or ellipsoidal) or, conversely, an old-fashioned design of a bathtub with curved legs, will help to create an original interior highlight, but become a focal point for the whole concept of designing a bathroom.

Non-standard can be not only the choice of the form of plumbing devices, but also their color. It’s not easy to meet a red or black toilet bowl, sink or bathtub in stores. But many manufacturers use original, bright colors for their models, you can order plumbing in any color scheme to order.

Storage systems as a way to optimize space

It’s difficult to do without storage systems in the bathroom, because you need to place various bath accessories somewhere. One of the traditional solutions is the cabinet under the sink. A hinged cabinet with a mirror door above the sink is no less popular. Both options are very practical, but not original. In addition, in the bathroom of a large family, one storage system may simply not be enough.

Bulky furniture with monolithic facades is able to visually weight the image of the interior. But open hanging shelves, racks or whatnots, cabinets with doors equipped with glass inserts, can organically fit into the modern design of a utilitarian room. Particularly popular is furniture made of abandoned wood (necessarily treated with special compounds and antiseptics that prevent the occurrence and spread of mold) with a pronounced texture, as if aged surface.

Lighting system and bathroom decor

The bathroom, whatever size it may have, should be well lit. Obviously, one ceiling lamp will not be enough even in a small utility room. As a rule, one or more ceiling lights are installed in a bathroom (or a strip light is placed around the perimeter) and local light sources are used near the mirror (or mirrors above the sinks).

Lighting devices can not only fulfill their basic functions of providing the premises with the necessary level of illumination, but also act as decorative elements, decorating the interior, bringing originality to it. Depending on the chosen style of design of the bathroom, lighting devices are also selected. But you can go the method of "on the contrary." For example, in a bathroom decorated in a modern style, hang a beautiful chandelier in the Baroque style (if only the ceiling height allowed the use of a model with many hanging decorative elements). Or, in a utilitarian room with a minimalist design, hang wall lamps made in the form of street lamps near the mirror.

There is no limit to the options for creating an original bathroom design - the weight depends only on your desire and capabilities. The only thing to consider when choosing fixtures of any design is that they will be constantly exposed to high humidity in the room, and their performance should take this feature into account.

As for the decorative elements present in the 2018 bathroom, they are mainly of practical importance. As decorative interior items, you can use:

  • towel holders;
  • laundry baskets;
  • containers for toothbrushes;
  • hooks and hangers for linen and towels;
  • coasters and various holders for placing bath accessories;
  • frames for mirrors and even watches.

The main rule for the decor of a modern bathroom - it should not be much. There should be no disunity. In no case should decorative elements weigh down the image of the room and distract attention from the main interior items.
